Building Energy Rating (BER) Certificates
As a result of the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) on January 1st 2007 all new dwellings in Ireland must have a Building Energy Rating (BER) Certificate. The BER certificate will be similar to the energy labelling of household appliances or the litres per kilometre rating for a car.The directive is extended to include BER ratings on all new buildings from January 1st 2008.
And finally from January 1st 2009 a BER certificate will be required for all existing dwellings and other existing buildings when offered for sale or rental.
